As it becomes increasingly clear that someone's not going to go away or yield in some way, then maybe it's a case of 'if you can't beat them, then join them'. Whilst you have your reasons for wishing someone wasn't featuring as much in your world as they are or proving to be an obstacle in some way, accepting them and offering an olive branch will undoubtedly prove beneficial now.
